大年初三

Today is the 3rd day of Chinese New Year, or what the ang mohs call "The Spring Festival". An appointment for a mini-gathering was made last week by a couple of poly mates. They are a bunch of ermm... though nice but a bit of those geeky types. Being hopelessly dateless on this big grand day on 大年初三, I thought I might wanna try my luck in meeting them as they can be great entertainers at times and I was sort of bored during CNY. But what a mistake it was ! Well, not really a big mistake but....

The moment I met up with the 4 of them, I was like .... speechless. The 4 of them are just as geeky as ever. Am I being mean?? Oops ! But hey, this is my blog ok ! I am entitled to free speech rights, right ? Just imagine, 2 short geeky guys looking 20 years older than you, and wearing uncle-ish pants somemore!! OMG ! I almost fainted.

Anyway, 5 of us had lunch at Cafe Cartel for 2 hours and then went on our separate ways because one of them needed to go 拜年 and another needed to buy food for his mum at home alone, so, obviously, I did not wanna "hang out" with 2 geeky guys by my side, hence, I just gave an excuse that I wanted to go home for dinner when I was actually free the whole evening. I ended up "roaming" alone around Plaza Singapura and purchased an Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Skincare Purifying 3-in-1 Cleanser/Toner/Exfoliant from SaSa's. Later, I proceeded to Carrerfour for more "rubbish" buys (2 packets of Meiji yoghurts, a can of Campbell soup, a packet of Campbell instant soup etc).

People say that the Chinese usually gamble during CNY. True enough, my relatives did play mj at my Grandmother's place. Interestingly, I do not know how to play this good ole Chinese game ! Neither do I know how to play Dua Ta Ti well nor cheem Chinese card games, coz I am a good girl mah !! I dun gamble ! 十赌九输 right ??? Anyway, the older adults played a few games of mj and that's it. The rest of the family members either watched those silly HK movies on TV or talked about what had happened in their children's or their own lives.

How I long for a loved one to immerse into the festive celebrations with me wholeheartedly !

As working adults, CNY celebrations are no longer fun or enjoyable. Kids get more red packets, fun and laughter from all the visiting and fawning over by various relatives. Adults were being asked embarrassing questions or get pressurized by courting or to-be-wedded cousins around the same age.

It's funny though, if you do have cousins of around the same age as you and both sets of mothers never fail to compare their kids' "achievements" every freaking year.

When we were 12 :"X has xxx points for his PSLE, how about your daughter?"

When we were 16 :"My son got xx points for his O Levels and he's going to XPoly, how about your daughter?"

When we were 22:"Where is your daughter working now ?"

When we were 23:"XX has a car but no gf yet leh...how abt yours ?"

When that particular boy cousin's older brother who is 2 years our senior brought his fiancee to Grandmother's house for the old dame's birthdays, for Mid-autumns, for CNYs, we were being shot yet again :"Got gf/bf/fiance/fiancee or not ?"

I know these are well-meaning concerns and I know that I wanna move on and get on with my life. A year is long enough and time is running out for me too...

旺旺新年

SO cute right ?

There are a few different breeds of dogs, including a salt-and-pepper Schnauzer performing tricks and stunts on channel 8's CNY variety show just now. Lovely.

I enjoy paying attention to this too.

Happy Chinese New Year, folks !
May this doggie year be a BETTER one than last year's !

Bad news on CNY eve

The time was 0843hr. I received a sms from someone, saying that another friend had passed away early this morning. He had had leukaemia and he had struggled with this illness for about 1 year plus. I got to know him from Singapore General Hospital in Aug 2004 and I was always amazed by his jest and positive outlook towards life. Or perhaps, he did not show out his sadness and true feelings to outsiders ? I do not know.

I can still recall how dejected, gloomy and pessimistic I was then. But he never failed to flash a grinny smile and nice cookies for me. That were the only few memories I had of him.

He left this world around 5 in the morning today, just 1 day before Lunar New Year. I heard that his family had arranged for his body to be cremated about 12 hours later on the same day. A bit too fast, I thought. But perhaps it wasn't good to cremate or attend funeral wakes on the first day of Chinese New Year ?

I felt sad and a tear fell from my moist eyes after hearing such terrible news.

Take care, my friend and smile, just like what you had always did to me....

With the Rain, it's Sayonara to my Flea market stall

After the 3.5 hours or so of hawking and selling of our wares, the rain came and everyone scrampered for shelter. It was quite a bright and sunny day to begin with at first. And I realised that most stall-holders were selling their goods for as little as S$1 or 2 ! And the goods include jackets, nice quality tops and bottoms like Mango, U2, Esprit, Miss Selfridge etc... As a result, I was forced into pricing most of my wares for that price range.

I was also almost speechless, minutes after a middle aged brown-skinned woman tried to bargain my hardly used patent Vespa sling bag (bought from Bangkok) to a rock-bottom S$ 2!! OMG ! With this price, she wun even get it in Bangkok ok ! Then, she took off with the bag, on the pretext of "showing to her husband". Yes, you've guessed it. She never returned ! Evil woman ! Bad woman ! She shoplifted from my stall ! Naughty woman ! No money to even pay for her purchase ?? Just S$6 also dun wanna pay me ?? Bad karma for evil people who do evil deeds ! Sinful behavior from a sinful woman ! :( Really disgusted at some mean people who do mean deeds wihtout bidding an eyelid

Well, well, after all that had happened, I am both mentally and physically tired, need to retire soon. I am still happy though, to be able to earn a bit of cash, despite all those "difficulties" I've faced....

My 1st Flea Market Stall

Hi folks ! I'll be having my very 1st flea market stall for just a day at Holland Village, near blk 12 and just opposite Cold Storage tomorrow, Sunday, 22 January 2006.

Items I will be selling include :
1) a white sleeveless cotton dress

2) IORA Unique Flowery Retro Cooling Tank Top

3) navy green shoulder carry bag

4) cotton tank top

5) an unused Vespa white patent sling bag

6) brand new white mango halter neck top

7) white spagetti top

8) orange ESPRIT T-shirt

Shucks !! I had wanted to include more items here, but it seems that this photo thingy dun seem to load after my last picture here :(

Anyway, most of my items are ladies' clothes of small and medium sizes eg a brand new size 24 Giordano black knee-length skirt, basket file holder (A4 size), aromatherapy candles and pottery sets etc. Most of my things are brand new, especially for the bags and aromatherapy sets. I just wanna sell away some stuff as there is too much stuff in my room, from my recent overseas shopping sprees. Most were impulse buys :( According to my friend who will be there with me, we will be selling the clothes and stuff for rock-bottom prices starting from S$2.00 !! To around $10 ++ . I just hope it will not rain tomorrow !!

I will be there just outside blk 12 Holland Road / Lane, below the hill, if I managed to get a table there. The flea market's operating hours, approx : 1500-2130hr.

So, my dear friends and readers out there, do drop by Holland Village, near block 12, if you are free/ nearby/ wanna shop for CNY clothes and stuff / bored/support me !!

Arigato !

See Red

Yesterday, I bought 3 pieces of red garments and this afternoon, I highlighted my hair with strips of red, bright red !

I highlighted my hair RED because it was known that this particular local host seemed to have better luck after colouring her whole head striking red ! And because I am not in showbiz but in a conservation office, I beckon I will do fine with red highlights too. Hopefully, this will do the trick in the time to come. It is good that Chinese New Year is approaching too :)

Any comments, people ??

Movies' Day

Recently, I dig watching drama serials, movies and sleeping to going outdoors recently. I love the cosy and lazy feeling of cooping up at home, enjoying my dosage of HK and Korean shows and relaxing at the comfort of my bedroom. Sometimes, I do want to drag my body out for the occasional ice bubble milk tea, drinks or meeting friends.

Anyway, I had initially wanted to talk about my favourite pastime recently, but guess I must had been too emotional just now. I had watched Wait Till Your're Older, King Kong, The Myth & The Vigilante Force these couple of days and I have to admit that these movies and drama are very thrilling and nice indeed. Go watch 'em ! Sigh ! I think I am gonna take solace in watching shows lately.

After 3.5 days of pure joy and freedom, it's back to work again tomorrow !

Gosh ! Guess I shan't talk anymore here, gonna turn in soon...

1st Day of the Year with New Experiences...

0000-0015hr, 1st January 2006, Esplande

After that, supper was at Hong Kong !!!

Gotcha !!

No lah, supper was at a Hongkong based tea-cafe at Heartland Mall. Check this new hangout out ! It's air conditioned and the food and tea milk taste like its authentic HK counterparts !

However, the service was not that great. The few different waiters who served us either missed out a dish or so or gave us the wrong order. The bill was even calculated wrongly, not once but twice !

Maybe they were glommy working on New Year's Day ??

Anyway, check the food out, Asian food lovers !!

叉烧包 (Chao Siew Bun, needless for further explanation, a favourite HK tim-sum)

凤脚 (traditionally known for being a tonic for ladies who want clear complexion & for general well-being)

上海鸡排饭 (This is very, very tasty & nice ! Yummy !!)

冰奶茶

热奶茶

奶油包

Mango Pudding with Milk
